Postdoctoral position in systems and synthetic biology

Information about the division and the project
The Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology at the Chalmers University of Technology is one of the world leading research groups in systems biology of metabolism.
Our research interests involve a wide range of activities from understanding the fundamental operational principles of metabolism and studies of metabolic diseases, to highly applied research directed towards development of new cell factories for the production of valuable chemicals.

cerevisiae has shown promise in production of high value chemicals such as flavonoids.
This project seeks to introduce and optimize production of diverse classes of flavonoids in S.
The approach includes creation of novel biosensors for flavonoid detection, followed by introduction and optimization of synthetic pathways for increased flavonoid production.

Major responsibilities
We are seeking a motivated, creative post-doctoral candidate interested in developing novel biosensors and synthetic pathway optimization.
The major responsibilities are to develop and test scientific concepts, and analyze and communicate results to the SYSBIO team.
First part of this project will involve development and optimization of flavonoid sensor systems.
The second part will involve introduction and optimization of flavonoid synthetic pathways.

The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent.
Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large.
The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment.
The position is limited to one year.

PhD degreee in biological field with a strong background in synthetic biology.
Experience with S.
cerevisiae is a must.
The candidate should have strong skills in molecular biology, data analysis, statistics.
Experience with CRISPR, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, HPLC is a bonus.

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field; the degree should generally not be older than three years.
You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English.
If Swedish is not your native language, you should be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years.
Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
