PhD position in Cell Biology and Biophysics of Intracellular Transport

A PhD position is available in the group of Prof.
Daniel Wüstner at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark, Odense.
Invited are applications from outstanding candidates with a master’s degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or closely related fields.
Experience in fluorescence microscopy, cell culture and molecular biology, membrane probes and/or lipid biochemistry is an advantage.
The proposed starting data is July 1st, 2024 or soon thereafter.

The Wüstner group integrates quantitative fluorescence microscopy and bioimage informatics with biophysics and cell biology to study transport processes in living cells.
We are part of the Danish Molecular Biomedical Imaging Center (DaMBIC; https://www.dambic.dk/) and the Nikon Center of Excellence in Microscopy at the University of Southern Denmark, housing state-of-the art equipment for advanced bioimaging applications, such as wide field, confocal and multiphoton microscopy, stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy, Raman and MinFlux microscopy.

As a PhD student in the Wüstner group, you will be engaged in an ambitious project aimed at determining lipid trafficking and signaling mechanisms in eukaryotic cells in relation to human diseases.
You will use a combination of automated live-cell imaging, super-resolution microscopy, soft X-ray tomography and single molecule tracking to study such processes.

The ideal candidate would have a documented background and experience in one or several of the following topics:

  • Yeast cell and molecular biology
  • Lipid biochemistry
  • Working with fluorescent probes and model membranes
  • Live-cell imaging and super-resolution microscopy
  • Single molecule labeling and tracking
  • Correlative microscopy

Application deadline: 16 May 2024 at 23:59 hours local Danish time
