The Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications for an associate professor of mathematics position.
The application deadline is 22 May 2024, and the starting date is 1 September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter, subject to negotiation.
The position is time-limited and will end on 30 November 2027

The successful candidate must have an internationally recognized record of outstanding achievement in research with contributions to the applicant's area of specialization.
Applicants with expertise in mathematical aspects of quantum information, quantum algorithms, and quantum computation will be preferred.

Applicants are required to have university-level teaching experience and documented teaching competencies.
They must also be able to explain and reflect upon their own teaching practice and portfolio.
Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training program for assistant professors is required.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management, such as supervising and training research fellows and other staff.
The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare, and participate in examinations and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.


The assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications.
Managerial and outreach qualifications of applicants, including their ability to attract external funding, will also be considered.

Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen.
The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organizational contribution, external funding, and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates.

The Department is a leading mathematics institution with a vibrant international research environment that spans several areas of pure and applied mathematics.
It has strong groups in, e.g., number theory, topology, operator algebras, combinatorics, and mathematical physics.
The department teaches a large portfolio of undergraduate and graduate courses both for students in the mathematical sciences and for students of other subjects at the Faculty of Science.
